Stranglehold

India ink on bristol board; digital colors

I've been meaning to appropriate Laocoon and His Sons for a while, and this seemed like a good time as any.

The Spirit of Compromise

Sure, the specific terms aren't as apocalyptic as anticipated, but one could just as well argue that the GOP's principal objective all along was to erode the administration's public standing (and faith in government as a whole; the Tea Party is another [crazy] story altogether). If that was the case, then they have categorically succeeded, and not for want of help from Mr. Obama. It's a shame that we're the ones who have to pay for it.

Those disembodied heads are supposed to be jellyfish, by the way, since there's no way Pelosi and Reid belong to phylum chordata.

A [Somewhat] More Compassionate World

India ink and watercolor lampblack wash on bristol board

It took a while, but on March 22, 2010, we all awoke to a [slightly] more just, decent society. The conspicuous absence of a public option was disappointing, to say the least, but what passed was at least a step in the right direction.

As for my estimation of the opposition on healthcare reform, the rapid frothing says it all.

Infighting

At this rate, we'll all be hailing Supreme Overlord McCain come January. Here's to ten thousand years of unremitting war!

Who's Hillary Now?

Please direct all reprint requests here

Truth be told, I had originally intended to illustrate a more extensive, exclusively online feature showcasing the multitudinous faces of Senator Clinton--including Hillary-bot 9000 ("Resistance is futile, your vote will be assimilated!")--that would complement a more limited print cartoon. Unfortunately, that required more time than I had, so you'll have to be content with the above cartoon. In the meantime, I present to you Hillary Rodham Clinton: A woman for all seasons.

United Way

Please direct all reprint requests here

For the record, I harbor no grudges against the United Way charity group or any of its affiliates. I do, however, disapprove of the at-times propagandistic rhetoric employed by both Obama and Clinton, not to mention the Democrats' internal division at a time when the GOP's finding a clear if not somewhat unsatisfactorily right-of-center front-runner in McCain.

COTD: 08.01.23

If the stock market's behavior tells us anything, it's that the invisible hand is wielded by a capricious mind. On a related note, to-morrow's cartoon will be about the economy, replete with ursine and bovine imagery! Okay, back to that research paper.

Roughin' It: At the Intersection of Bull and #$%&

As one of my dear friends remarked so brilliantly a while ago, Congress is the antonym of progress. Judging by to-day's morning business--if you can really call it that--I'd say that his assessment was categorically correct. I'd provide a detailed litany of transgressions and travesties, but (1) I believe in human rights, wherefore I shan't torture you with such sordid and offensive details, and (2) there simply isn't enough space on the Internets for such a catalogue. Anyhow, here's my take on this morning's operative phrase, "broken Congress."
